LISA-MARIA GRUBER

Lisa-Maria Gruber (*1994, Lower Austria) is a portrait and documentary photographer and currently lives between Hanover and Vienna.

She documents the effects of environmental changes on society and the diverse tensions of identity. In doing so, she sheds light on both external political conflicts and internal struggles. Her work reflects Lisa-Maria’s Austrian calm presence, which encourages her protagonists to open up in a special way and makes the fractures of our world visible.

Her photographs have been published in newspapers such as Die Zeit, Der Spiegel and Zeit Online and were nominated for True Picture, the Versicherungsgruppe Hannover (VGH Award), and the Global Peace Photography Award. Her book dummy Vermilion Fingertips was shortlisted for the Dummy Award – the international competition for the best unpublished photobook dummies of the year – and is currently exhibited around the world.

Her work has been part of various group exhibitions, and she has collaborated with NGOs active in the Middle East and the Mediterranean Sea.

She has a background in graphic design and is currently studying photojournalism and documentary photography. As part of her studies, she completed a semester abroad at the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX) in Aarhus, Denmark.
